System ComponentsLocksThe HT24 lock is a stand alone magnetic stripe lockthat runs on 4 AA alkaline batteries. The mostimportant feature of the electronic lock is that itchanges its code automatically for each new guest whochecks into the room. Each new Guest Card used in alock will automatically void the previous Guest Card.In a similar manner, the lock will also accept a newmaster card. Any new Master Card used in a lock willautomatically void the previous Master Card.KeycardsThe system uses an ISO standard three-track, lowcoercivity, flush-mount magnetic stripe keycard. Thecard complies with the ISO requirements for keycarddimensions and materials. The information is encodedon track three in an encrypted and proprietary format,leaving tracks one and two open for use in anothersystem, such as a point-of-sale system.Advance RFID uses MIFARE-compliant ISOstandards-based ultra light or 1K keycard.System Components - 3
The card is re-usable. When the card is re-encoded withnew information, the previous information is destroyed,much like taping over an old movie on videotape.Replacement keycards are available from Onity in botha generic format and with custom graphics. Purchasesfrom other vendors should be tested by Onity forcompatibility.Portable ProgrammerThe Portable Programmer (PP) is used to transportinformation between the lock and the front deskequipment. It can also be used to open a guestroom andto test the functionality of a lock.When the locks are first installed, the PP is used toinitialize each lock to a particular room number, load itstable of room codes, and set the internal clock.The PP uses four AA batteries which are expected toprovide about 50 hours of use. If the display is notvisible, the batteries must be replaced.Function Keys on the PPON/CLR (red)The ON/CLR key turns the PP on. It also is used toclear or abort an operation and return to the menu.OFFThe OFF key turns the PP off. This cable is used toconnect the Portable Programmer to the HT22 encoder.HT22 EncoderThe HT22 is a powerful front desk check-in system thatdoes not require a PC. Through the use of an easy-touse keycard encoding unit you can manage up to 500doors, 100 operators and 250 master users. The HT22offers direct Property Management System (PMS)interface capabilities and can be configured with up toeight encoding stations to allow for rapid check-in inhigh-volume properties.The HT22 is based on stand-alone technology, so nowiring to the locks is required. The front deskcommunicates with the electronic locks through the useof the PP. Once a lock is originally programmed, eachnew guest keycard will automatically void the previousguest keycard, automatically re-keying the lock. Thelocks store the last 100 valid openings in non-volatilememory, allowing you to retrieve an accurate record ofindividuals who have been in a room in the event of areported incident.System Components - 5
The entire HT22 system has been designed to offer asimple way to enhance property control on a door-bydoor and person-by-person basis.The HT22 may be used in three different modes ofoperation – Main Encoder, Terminal, and RegularEncoder.Main EncoderIn all HT22 systems, one encoder is designated as theMain Station, or HT22 server. This encoder contains allof the data for the property. Other HT22 encoders maybe attached to a main encoder, but they must be ineither terminal or regular encoder mode. The mainencoder can be used to perform all reception andmanagement functions of the HT22 system. The mainencoder is also used to load the PP, and print reports. Ifyou are interfacing the HT22 system with your PropertyManagement System, the connection with that system ismade to the Main HT22 encoder.TerminalThe HT22 can be used as a terminal or slave unit to aMain encoder. This allows the hotel to connect up toseven additional encoders to a Main Station for use infront desk reception functions. The terminals may alsobe used as a back-up for the Main Station. All of thebasic reception functions may be performed on aTerminal Mode encoder.Regular EncoderThe HT22 can be used as a regular encoder with a MainStations. This mode is used when the Main Station isconnected to a property management system (PMS).This allows the property to have an encoder next toeach PMS terminal. When the unit is in RegularEncoder mode, the keypad is not active. The regularencoders will encode cards automatically through thereception screens on the PMS.System Components - 6
Keypad DefinitionsThe keypad of the HT22 has 25 different keys to allowoperator input into the unit. The following list of keyscontains a very basic explanation of what each keydoes.New GuestThe New Guest key is used to quickly begin encoding anew Guest Card.Copy GuestThe Copy Guest key is used to quickly make a copy ofa registered guest's card.Check OutThe Check Out key is used to quickly check a guest outof a room.ReadThe Read key is used to quickly read any card in thesystem.ExitThe Exit key is used to end processes and log the useroff of the system.Number KeysThe Number Keys are used to enter room numbers,passwords and other data into the system.* KeyThe * key is used to print reports within the reportmenus.System Components - 7

Right ArrowThe RIGHT ARROW is used to scroll down throughthe alphabet, scroll right in the menu headings or scrolldown one page at a time in a list.Display AdjustmentsThe HT22 encoder has a Liquid Crystal display with abacklight to allow you to easily view the screen fromany angle.[NOTE: Older versions of the HT22 may also have acontrast adjustment knob located on the bottom left ofthe encoder. Current versions do not have thisadjustment.]HT22 StylesThe HT22 comes in three styles – Insertion (HT22i),Motorized (HT22m), and RFID (HT22P). The magneticencoders (Insertion and Motorized) both encodeinformation on Track 3 of the magnetic stripe keycard,which is reserved for locking system information. TheRFID Encoder encodes information into Sector 1 of aMIFARE card.CablesThe cable used to connect the encoders should be 18gauge, two-conductor, twisted-pair, stranded, shieldedcable. If the cable is to be run through ceilings or crawlspaces, it should also be plenum rated. The cable shouldhave a DB9 male connector on each end. Within thecable, pins 2 and 3 should be connected straightthrough; pin 2 on one end is connected to pin 2 on theother end, and pin 3 on one end is connected to pin 3 onthe other end. These cables are typically supplied byOnity, but in cases where the distance betweenencoders exceeds 100ft, or if it is difficult to run thecable, it may be supplied and installed by a local cablecontractor. The only difference in this cable and theHTCOM cable that is supplied with the PP is the cablelength.System Components - 9
Spare Card SystemThe Spare Card system is used as an emergency backup to maintain the hotel's ability to rent rooms in theevent of an extended power outage or complete systemfailure. It is extremely important to keep a currentProgramming Card with the Spare Cards at all times.These cards should be located in a secure area wherethey are easily accessible to the front desk staff in theevent of an emergency. Since the locks are batteryoperated, current Guest Cards are not affected by theseissues.PrinterA standard parallel printer is used to print the reportsfrom the HT22 main station. Onity supplies an ink jetprinter to perform these functions.System Components - 10
Optional ComponentsOff-Line Wall ReaderOff-line readers are stand-alone units that do not requireconnections to a central computer. To operate, the offline readers require a 12 volt DC power supply which issupplied by Onity. They are used to control an electricallocking device, such as an electric strike, magneticlock, automatic door and gate operator. In all otherregards, the off-line reader behaves like the stand-alonelock.The off-line readers are typically configured to allowaccess to multiple guest keys and Staff Card holders.On-Line Wall ReaderOn-line readers are devices that are connected to thefront desk main console for instantaneous update andaudit capability. Each reader is connected to acontroller, which in turn is connected through theHTCOM network to the front desk main station. AllCheck-in and Check-out information is immediatelyOptional Components - 11
relayed to the reader, so that access privileges can begranted or denied on a minute-by-minute basis.The on-line readers are also used to control an electricallocking device, such as an electric strike, magneticlock, automatic door or gate operator.Card IdentifierThe Card Identifier is used by hotels in Point-of-Sale(POS) applications where the property wants to use theGuest Cards to provide services to guests of theproperty. The Insertion Identifier can read the GuestCard, display the information on the screen and outputthe same information through a serial port for POSsoftware applications. This information helps the staffat the POS location to determine if the customer is avalid guest and whether or not that guest is allowed tocharge the bill to the room.Optional Components - 12

Mounted Sample Lock – The mounted samplelock is an HT24 lock that is mounted on a demoblock for easy use during the training program.This lock is one of the spare locks youpurchased with your system. Using the HT22 SystemTraining Set UpConnectionsIn order to begin the training, it is necessary to set upthe system components.All external connections to the HT22 are made throughconnectors on the rear panel. The power switch for theunit is located on the rear panel, as shown in Figure 2on page 18. To turn on the HT22, move the switchtoward the word 'On' (toward the side of the unit). Toturn off the HT22, move the switch toward the word'Off' (away from the side of the unit).Using the HT22 System - 15

Beginning with the main station, eachencoder is connected in a continuous string. The firstand last encoder in this string must have the terminatingresistor set to the ON position, as shown in Figure 4 onpage 20. All of the other encoders in the string musthave the terminating resistor set to the OFF position.The total length of the string may not exceed 4500 feet.Using the HT22 System - 17
Figure 4 – Terminating Resistor SwitchTo connect several encoders in a network, begin byconnecting one end of an HTCOM cable to the 9-pinport on the main station marked HTCOM (CN8).Connect the other end of the HTCOM cable to the 9-pinport marked PP HTCOM (CN9) on the first auxiliaryencoder (see Figure 5 on page 21). Connect the nextencoder by connecting one end of another HTCOMcable to the 9-pin port marked HTCOM (CN8) on thefirst auxiliary and connecting the other end of theHTCOM cable to the 9-pin port marked PP HTCOM(CN9) on the second auxiliary encoder. You maycontinue in this manner until a maximum of eightencoders are connected (seven auxiliary encoders andone main station).Using the HT22 System - 18

The reports will print on any standardsize paper; the unit prompts you to enter the number oflines per page each time you generate a printed report.Using the HT22 System - 19
For systems with more thanone encoder, the printermust be connected to theMain EncoderTo connect a parallel printer to the HT22, connect oneend of a standard parallel printer cable to the printeryou wish to use. This cable may not exceed 25 feet inlength. Connect the other end of the cable to the 25-pinconnector labeled PRINTER (see Figure 7 on page 22)located on the rear panel of the HT22.Figure 7 – Connecting the PrinterProgramming the LockNow that we have everything connected, we need toprogram the Mounted Sample Lock to use in thetraining presentation.First turn on all of the HT22 encoders. This is done byturning the power switch located on the rear panel ofthe encoder to the ON position. The encoder(s) willperform some power on testing and then the EnterPassword screen appears.On the Main Encoder, press the 5 key and then pressENTER. (The HT22 system is shipped with a passwordof ‘5').Using the HT22 System - 20
Press the MENU button, then press the Right Arrowbutton six times until the Communications menuappears.Turn on the PP by pressing the Red ON/CLR button onthe PP.On the encoder, Press the Enter button.Press Enter at the next screen to accept the CompleteLoading default option.Enter 1111 at the ‘PP Password' prompt.At the ‘From Room' prompt, enter 9991 and pressEnter.At the ‘Until Room' prompt, enter 9991 and pressEnter.If your system has been configured with ‘Back ofHouse' locks, you will see the ‘From Door' prompt. Ifyou see this prompt, press the CLR button on the HT22Encoder and the HT22 will begin to load theinformation into the Portable Programmer.If your system has not been configured with ‘Back ofHouse' locks, the HT22 will begin to load theinformation into the Portable Programmer.When the communication is finished, the HT22Encoder will display ‘End of Comm'. Press Enter toreturn to the menu. Press Exit to log out of the system.The Programmer is now ready to Initialize the SampleMounted Lock. Plug the round connector from theattached PP cable into the round jack in the bottom ofthe lock.Power on the PP by pressing the Red ON/CLR button.Press the Menu button of the PP three times. You willsee ‘4. Initialize' on the screen.Press the UP arrow until you see ‘9991' on the screen.(This will be the only option unless your system hasbeen configured to work with HTCombo safes. In thiscase, you will have ‘ 9991' as an option in addition to‘9991'. Make sure to choose ‘9991')Using the HT22 System - 21
Press the green TX button on the programmer toinitialize the lock as room 9991.You are now ready to begin the training.Front Desk OperationsNOTE: all operations which refer to ‘inserting' the cardfor encoding are performed on the HT22P (RFID)encoder by presenting the card to the appropriatelocation on the HT22P, as there is no insertion possiblewith this encoder.Log On ScreenA valid password must be entered to access the HT22system. Each password consists of up to 8 alphanumeric characters. Up to 100 users can be set up to usethe HT22 system. To log into the system, simply enteryour password and press the enter key. If yourpassword contains letters, press the A-Z Letters key anduse the left and right arrows to scroll to the desiredletter. When the correct letter is displayed, press the AZ letters key again if the next character of the passwordis a letter, a number key if the next character of thepassword is a number, or the enter key if the passwordis complete. Upon successful login, the new guestoption is selected by default. At this point, you maychoose to encode a new guest key, press one of the hotkeys to perform another common function or press theMENU key to scroll through the menu options. For thepurpose of the training, the password is ‘5'.Menu OverviewThe functions of the HT22 system are grouped into aseries of menu options. For example, all the functionspertaining to Reception activity are grouped under amenu named Reception. A user can navigate throughthe menus by pressing the menu key, then using the leftand right arrow keys. Grouped under each menuheading are the available functions pertaining to thatmenu. The green Enter key is used to select the option.Not all of the functions are available to all the users.These options are restricted based on password level.Password levels will be covered in detail later in thecourse.New Guest Check-inThis function is used when a new guest is to be checkedinto a room. When the new card is used in the lock, thecard of the previous guest will automatically becanceled in the lock. Since this function is the mostfrequently used, the HT22 defaults to this functionwhen an operator logs into the system.Single Room Guest CardTo check in a new guest, perform the following steps:1.Enter your password.2.Press the ENTER key. If a back-up needs to bemade or updated, the screen will prompt you totake action. Once this process is complete, thescreen will display 'New Guest Check-In' andprompt you to enter a room number.NEW GUEST CHECK INRoom:3.Pressing the HELP key will allow you to select theroom number from a list of the rooms in the system.Simply highlight the room number desired in the list,and press the ENTER key to select it.Using the HT22 System - 23
