It occurred to me while I was making my Police Station Criminals are Criminals Mod that some folks out there may not know how to create a working Overrides folder.
Yamaha downloader for mac. How to install mods and custom content. Step 1: Under the start up menu, Go to Documents Electronic Arts The Sims 3. Step 2: When you open the folder, see if you have a folder inside named 'Mods'. If you don't see a folder named 'Mods', then create a new folder and name it 'Mods.' (If the 'Mods' folder was already inside 'The Sims 3' Folder. Dec 31, 2013 Currently, the place you need to create a Mods folder is: Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3/ and here you create your Mods folder. Now we will get on to the actual installing of mods. Package file you have downloaded will go in a folder called ‘Mods'. This folder will not be there to start with, as you have to create it yourself. The Mods folder will generate inside of your user files folder. If you're unsure where this folder is, Crinrict has lots of good information on where to find it and what it contains here. Long story short: this is usually in 'Documents Electronic Arts The Sims 4' on Mac and PC, but may be located elsewhere if you did an advanced install. Folder Names Correct? Double-check the folder names: Under My Documents Electronic Arts The Sims 3 you should have a folder called 'Mods' - big M, little s. Inside that Mods folder (My Documents Electronic Arts The Sims 3 you should have a folder called 'Packages' - big P, little s. Resource.cfg Name & Location? Double-check the Resource.cfg.
And if you don't know what that is, it's basically a folder that you can use to resolve (some) conflicts between mods that edit the same tuning resources. So, like I mentioned in the post for the criminals mod, although that mod technically edits some files that are also edited in Zero's No Randoms mod, you can easily make the two compatible by making my mod load last. Nothing else in Zero's packages relies on anything in the specific file I edited, so making mine load last and override that part of Zero's package won't break anything.
If you're familiar with the Sims 3's modding scene, the process for doing this is basically exactly the same as it was for that game. Add a new folder in your Mods called Overrides, and then update your resource.cfg to give that folder priority. If you're not familiar, don't worry: we'll go step by step.
What you'll need:
- The Sims 4
- A plaintext editor like Notepad (Windows) or TextEdit (Mac)
- 5 minutes
Step 1: Run the game at least once and enable mods

Cat b15 software update. If the Mods folder doesn't generate, you can add one inside of the Sims 4 folder through normal means.
Step 3: Create a new folder inside Mods named 'Overrides'

You can actually name it whatever you want. I typically name mine '_Overrides' because then it shows up at the top of my Mods folder when things are sorted alphabetically by folder/file name.
Step 4: Open your Resource.cfg
Make sure you're opening it in Notepad or TextEdit; programs like Microsoft Word or other rich text editors may cause problems with the file. It should look like this by default:
Step 5: Edit your Resource.cfg to assign priority to your new folder
Below the code that already exists, add a couple of new lines, then a new line that says 'Priority 1000'. This is telling the game to give a higher load priority to a new set of files and subfolders that we will now define.
Copy the last 5 lines from the 'Priority 500' block and paste them beneath the 'Priority 1000' one. Replace the first asterisk in each line under 'Priority 1000' with the name of your overrides folder. If you named the folder 'Overrides' it should look like this:
If you named it '_Overrides' or something else be sure to reflect that. Be careful with the slashes here; the placement is important.
Step 6: Save Resource.cfg

In Notepad, you can do ctrl+S or click File > Save. Close the text editor.
Step 7: Add the files you want to load last to the Overrides folder.
And add the other files as normal.

Rely on modders to address whether conflicts with other mods can be addressed this way (unless you have tuning experience; in which case you might be able to determine whether or not this will work for yourself). If you're unsure, ask the creator(s) of one of the mods.
As I said before, there are lots of conflicts that this strategy alone will not be able to fix. And since unresolved/poorly-resolved mod conflicts can break stuff depending on the circumstances, I encourage you to:

Step 8: Backup your saves and TEST
Make sure to create a backup of your favorite saves before loading up the game. Test the two conflicting mods alone together in a fresh save before trying it with your actual saves.
